Best Dressed - MTV Movie Awards

I don't mean to sound like an awful, horrible snob, but...what the heck is wrong with kids today? I was somewhat annoyed at missing the MTV Movie Awards, but then I found out that Eclipse won the Best Movie award. Has no one heard of Black Swan? Inception? The Social Network? I'd love to go back to a time of stupid teen movies, yes, but with a little flair, a little soul. Vampire ridicule nonwithstanding, here are the Best Dressed highlights:


Non voglio sembrare un'orrenda snob, ma...cosa hanno i ragazzi di oggi che non va? Ero un po' dispiaciuta di essermi persa gli MTV Movie Awards, ma poi ho scoperto che Eclipse ha vinto il premio Miglior Film. Nessuno quindi ha sentito parlare di Black Swan? Inception? I know, I know that I just spit venom all over Twilight. And don't get me wrong, I still think it's a parody and all of the actors have something dead fish-like about their acting. But this Balmain dress is heaven. And, oh yeah, it's great to see Kristen smiling for once.

Lo so che ho appena sparlato di Twilight. Penso ancora che sia una parodia e che tutti gli attori sono tristemente accomunati da quello sguardo da pesce lesso. Ma questo abito di Balmain é meraviglioso. E certo, non guasta neanche vederla sorridere, per una volta!

Un po' di giorni fa, sfogliando Glamour (no, non é una cosa che fa solitamente), David ha detto: "ecco, questa ti somiglia!"
Io, preparata a vedere qualche sciaquetta acqua-e-sapone (e Photoshop) che fa le pubblicitá degli assorbenti, ho buttato un'occhio sulla pagina...e ho visto che indicava Julia Restoin-Roitfeld. In quel momento mi é fregato poco del fatto che il mio fidanzato non sa nemmeno chi sia Carine Roitfeld, figuriamoci sua figlia.

Non pensate adesso che io sia cosí arrogante da credere di veramente somigliare a Julia: magari! Peró, insomma. È stato un'ottimo inizio alla giornata.



There are moments that just light up your day.

One morning last week, while flipping through Glamour (no, that's not something he usually does), David said: "this girl, she looks like you".

I lazily shot a glance at the page, ready to see some unmemorable, very random "natural-looking" (as natural as Photoshop allows) model in a tampon ad, when instead I noticed that he was pointing to a picture of Julia Restoin-Roitfeld. In that moment, I couldn't care less about the fact that my boyfriend hasn't the slightest clue of who Carine Roitfeld is, let alone her daughter.

Now, I don't want you all to think that I'm presumtuous enough to believe that I look anything like Julia: I wish! But just let me say, that was a lovely start to the day.

Elisabetta Would Rather Go Naked

Ho un nuovo rispetto per Elisabetta Canalis.

Nonostante la mia idea che le cosíddette showgirl siano abbastanza inutili nella societá (questa é solo una mi opinione: evidentemente a qualcuno interessano) riconosco il loro potere come personaggi pubblici, quindi sono contenta quando una di loro decide di dedicarsi a una buona causa. Perció sono felice di condividere con voi la notizia che Elisabetta ha deciso di posare nuda per PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, famosi per la campagna I Would Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur degli anni 90) conto il commercio delle pellicce.

Io dico: bravo George. Hai proprio ottimo gusto e hai scelto bene. Una donna bella, con un cervello e con un cuore, non é la cosa piú facile da trovare.



I have a new respect for Elisabetta Canalis, the Italian model/TV presenter, famous for being the girlfriend of George Clooney.


Although I tend to get annoyed at the objectification of women in Italian television, and Elisabetta is a perfect example of that, I recognize these women's power as public figures, so I'm very happy when one of them decides to stand up for a good cause. So I couldn't be happier that Elisabetta has decided to pose naked for one of PETA's anti-fur campaigns.

All I have to say is: way to go, George. A beautiful woman with some brains and a heart sure isn't easy to find.

Alla faccia di chi dice di "non mixare stampe": la maggioranza delle altre celebritá qui andrebbe per il contrario - tinte unite contrastate da una borsa stampata. La scelta "sicura", con il timbro d'approvazione di sia Rachel Zoe che Nina Garcia.
Non Olivia. Essendo la futura icona di stile che é (sí, avete sentito bene. Ma attenzione: ho detto futura) va controcorrente con un mix selvaggio di pizzo, stampe e animalier, staccando con una borsa bianca. Fantastico.

Continua a non fregarmi niente di quello che "tutti" pensano di lei - della sua presunta "antipatia", delle sue "brutte" ginocchia, non mi interessa. Perché la veritá non é forse che tutte sognamo il suo guardaroba?

Whoever says "don't mix prints" can stuff it. Here, most celebs would go for the contrary: block colors or neutrals contrasted by a printed bag. The "safe" pick, sealed with a stamp of approval from both Rachel Zoe and Nina Garcia.
Not Olivia. As the future style icon that she is (yes, you read right. But I said future) fights the trite with a savage mix of prints, lace, animalier, the works, breaking it off with a white bag. Brilliant.

I continue not to care about what "everyone" thinks of her - her presumed "personality issues", or her "ugly" knees, none of it matters to me. The truth is, don't we all secretly covet her closet?

Everyday style - Jessica Alba

Se ti chiami Jessica Alba, è facile vestirsi per il tappeto rosso (beh, se ti chiami Jessica Alba è facile tutto visto che sei una delle donne più belle del mondo), con un esercito di stylist, parrucchieri e truccatori che ti corrono dietro armati di Louboutins e crema autoabbronzante. Il guardaroba di tutti i giorni, però, è un'altra storia. Ed è qui che Jessica mi stupisce.

Ci riesce ogni singola volta.

Classic Fantastic

Ormai penso che la mia adorazione per Zoe Saldana è chiara a tutti. Già dai tempi di Center Stage (e chi l'ha visto a parte me?) fino ad Avatar, mi ha colpita per la sua differenza dalle altre attrici emergenti di Hollywood. Forse perchè spesso si ritrova a recitare personaggi un po' ribelli, poco conformiste, forti e coraggiose.

Questa primavera è decisamente la stagione del ritorno della zampa. Cioè, i pantaloni a zampa, o bootcut come preferisco chiamarli ("zampa" suona un po' troppo hippie). Ragazze, abbandoniamo gli skinny, almeno per un paio di mesi! E già che ci siamo, lasciamo perdere anche il ferro da stiro. Guardate come sta divinamente Zoe con questa camicia bianca leggermente stroppicciata.

Scarpe da abbinare con un pantalone svasato? Zeppe, zeppe, zeppe. O platforms. La parola chiave è altezza.

E, beh. Chi può, ovviamente, non si dimentica la Givenchy Antigona bag. Noialtre ci accontentiamo di una borsa oversize di H&M o Zara.

From the days of Center Stage (did anyone see - and love - that movie besides me?) to Avatar, I have always been a fan of Zoe Saldana's ability to portray heroines far from the typical Hollywood-starlet stereotype: a bit rebel, a bit unconformist. And obviously for her amazing sense of style.

This spring is definitely the season of bootcut. Girls, let's give our skinnies a rest. And while we're at it, let's abandon the ironing boards: look how great this slightly wrinkled white shirt looks on Zoe.

Shoes to wear with bootcut jeans: wedges, wedges, wedges! Or platforms. The key word is height.

And, well. whoever can afford it: don't forget the Givenchy Antigona bag. The rest of us: a black oversize bag from H&M or Zara will do!
