Sascha's Daily Drama: What Makes a Model?

Come vi ho raccontato qualche giorno fa, io e un mio collega-fotografo stiamo preparando il nostro primo servizio fotografico insieme. Sono molto molto felice per questo, visto che sará il primo servizio dove tutto lo styling sará fatto da me e finalmente portró iniziare a costruire il mio portfolio come stylist.

Dedicandomi alla ricerca della modella (non é facile, credetemi!) ho sentito in giro dei pareri che mi fanno pensare che forse il concetto di "modella" nell'immaginario collettivo é un leggermente diverso da quello che é per noi "addetti ai lavori":

Secondo la mia esperienza e il modestissimissimo parere:

Una modella é:

* Una che si sa muovere davanti alla macchina fotografica
* Una che conosce il suo corpo e sa cosa esaltare e cosa nascondere
* Una che lavora con gli occhi al 100% senza sguardi "morti"
* Una che ha un fisico proporzionato e armonioso (NON vuol dire scheletrico)
* Una trasformista che sa interpretare il mood e il tema delle foto
* Una che sa valorizzare l'abito e metterlo in primo piano
* Una professionista.

Una modella NON é:

* Una "ragazza carina" (non c'entra proprio niente)
* "Basta che sia alta e magra"
* La piú figa della classe/dell'ufficio/della palestra
* Finta: niente ricrescite, unghie acrilici, abbronzature arancioni o chirurgia plastica
* Una che cerca di fare la sexy in ogni occasione (e in ogni foto...uff che pazienza)
* Una a cui é sempre stato detto che é "tanto carina perció dovresti fare la modella" (il provino per Veline non é da questa parte, mi dispiace).

Insomma, una modella é un po' un'attrice. È una che sa vivere lo spirito della foto e metterci la sua impronta.
Un'impronta che non é sempre sexy, ma é sempre affascinante, forte, carismatica. Come queste ragazze qui sotto:

As I've told you a couple of days ago, me and my photographer colleague are getting ready for our first photo shoot together. I'm very excited about it because it'll be my first time actually styling a shoot and it'll give me the possibility to build my portfolio as a stylist.

As we prepare for the shoot, I've found myself with the (all but easy) task of finding a model. I've noticed that many people's opinion of what a model is is actually quite different from what we see from behind the camera when we work on a shoot.

According to my experience and my very humble opinion...

A model is:

* Someone who has the ability to move in front of a camera
* Someone who knows her body and knows how to show her assets and hide her flaws
* Someone who works with her eyes 100% with no "dead fish" looks
* Someone who has a proportioned and harmonious figure (this does NOT mean anorexic)
* A transforming artist who knows how to embody the spirit of the photo shoot
* Someone who knows how to show off the product
* A professional.

A model is NOT:

* A pretty girl (the two have nothing to do with each other!)
* "As long as she's tall and skinny"
* The hottest girl in class/in the office/at the gym
* Fake: no dark roots, acrylic nails, orange tans or plastic surgery, please.
* Someone who tries to be sexy in every occasion (and thus in every photo...snooore)
* Someone who's always been told that "you're so pretty, you should be a model" (I'm sorry, the Miss World auditions are down the hall, darling).

A model is a bit like an actress: someone who knows how to live the spirit of the pictures and put her own spin on them. A spin that might not always be sexy, but it's always charismatic, strong, remarkable. Like these girls:
